Beylerbeyi Palace
This fascinating palace which is beautifully situated on the Asian shores of
Bosphorus was built by architect Sarkis Balyan between 1861 and 1865 for Sultan
Abdulaziz. It is the largest and grandest
Ottoman Palace on the Asian side of Bosphorus. This three stoyed palace with a
basement, six major halls and 24 rooms was inhabited by the Ottoman Royalty as a
summer palace. It was also used by the great
dignitaries of word when they visited Istanbul. Among these dignitaries, one can
mention Eugenia, the wife of French Emperor Napelyon III, who came to Istanbul
in 1869 as the guest of Sultan Abdulaziz; the Emperor Franze Joseph of Austria,
the shah Nasreddin of Persia, The king Edward VIII of England (when he was
Prince of Wales).
Kuleli Military College
This immense building with two high towers was built by Ottoman Sultan Selim
III who built as a military College s part of his reforms to change the Ottoman
Army. The school was renovated and restored in the following centuries.
