The main
monument of Bodrum is its extraordinary Crusader castle of St. Peter,
constructed by the Knights of St. John; it was initiated in 1042 and
completed toward the end of that century. The castle now houses the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, which has on exhibition objects found both at underwater and mainland sites. Finds from various shipwrecks, including a Bronze Age ship sunk off Cape Gelidonya around 1200 BC, 6th and 7th century AD wrecks from Yassıada island, and 11 century ship loaded with exquisite glassware discovered at Serce Limanı, are displayed in a most attractive way with the drawings and photos concerning underwater archaeology.
