KONYA
Konya, which has been one of the
greatest rug carpet weaving centers of Turkey, is still one of the finest
capitals of weaving. Nearly half of the rugs, woven in Turkey, originated from
the Konya, Kayseri and Sivas region. Great fame of the Cappadocia rugs
culminated with the discovery of Seljuk rugs dating to 13th century at the
Allaeddin mosque in Konya and Esrefoglu mosque it Beysehir. This great city of
Central Anatolia witnessed the visits of famous figures of the history
including Marco Polo who admired and praised the rugs of the region. Konya
rugs use great deal of red colour and scattered motifs.
