The most prominent of these monuments was the Mausoleum, which he created as a great Carian mausoleum dedicated to himself and his sister-wife, Artemisia II. The mausoleum of Halicarnasus was considered as one of the seven wonders of the world.

According to Pliny, the lower part of the structure consisted of a high podium measuring 32.0x38.7 m (108x127 ft). Above this, a peristyle of 36 lonic columns stood. Above the portico was a pyramidal roof of 24 steps, surmounted by a four-horse chariot. The architects of the Mausoleum were Pythius and Satyrus. The British Museum has sculptures from these friezes, as well as other works of art. The panel of the frieze now exhibited in the Bodrum museum shows a scene from an Amazonomachy, in which a naked Greek warrior is about to slay a fallen Amazon maiden.
