Due
to increase of the trade with Europe and need for accommodation in Istanbul, new
and fine hotels were built in Istanbul in the 19th century. The largest and most
impressive one was Pera Palace Hotel, built by the Wagon Lit Company in mid 19th
century to give accommodation to their clients. Many famous figures such as
Greta Garbo, Mata Hari and Agatha Christie who wrote the famous novel "the
murder on the Orient Express" stayed in the Pera Palace Hotel. Two of the
special rooms of the Hotel are kept with utmost care. One of them is the room of
Agatha Christie who stayed the room 101 for a while. Second room which is kept
like a museum is the room 411 where Kemal Ataturk stayed when he was an officer
in the Turkish army.
The Pera Palace has impressive reception
rooms and fine bar and still attracts many visitors in addition to those
choosing it as their accommodation in Istanbul..
