Beylerbeyi Palace

This fascinating palace which is beautifully situated on the Asian shores of Bosphorus was built by architect Sarkis Balyan in 1865 for Sultan Abdulaziz. It is the largest and grandest Ottoman Palace on the Asian side of Bsphorus. This three stoyed palace which was inhabited by the Ottoman Royalty as a summer palace was also used by the great dignitaries of word when they visited Istanbu. Among the dignitaries, one can mention Eugenia, the wife of French Emperor Napelyon III, who came to istanbul in 1869 as the guest of Sultan Abdulaziz; the Emperor Franze Joseph of Austria, the shah Nasreddin of Persia, The king Edward VIII of England (when he was Prince of Wales). Sultan Abdul Hamid II lived the last years of his life after his years of exile in Thessaloni. He died in Beylerbeyi palace in 1918
