OTTOMAN PALACES Istanbul, the capital city of Ottoman Empire has great number of Ottoman Palaces in the old city and on the banks of Bosphorus. The oldest Ottoman Palace in Istanbul was near Grand Bazaar Area. This was followed by Topkapi Palace, the great residence of Ottoman Sultans from 1460's to 1850s. Starting from 19th century, Ottoman Sultans built beautiful marble palaces on Bosphorus Strait. Most important of those palaces was Dolmabahce Palace, built by Sultan Abdülmecit. In addition to Dolmabahce, there are Cıragan, Beylerbeyi, Kucuksu palaces on the banks of Bosphorus. Surrounded by the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and Golden Horn and located on the first hill of old city, Topkapi Palace, the great residence of Ottoman Dynasty, is one of the most notable museums of the world.
