RUSTEMPASA MOSQUE

It was built by the reputed architect Sinan for the Grand Vizier Rustem Pasa, the son in law of Suleyman the Magnificent, ruling sultan of the period. Rustempasa asked to Sinan to built a new mosque in the vicinity of Spies market. Since he couldn't dare to have a great mosque constructed, he ordered Sinan to decorate it with the most beautiful tiles of Iznik. Built in 1550 on the row shops, this fascinating building overshadowed other mosques due to its tiles and beauty of its architecture. Built after the Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul and before Edirne's Selimiye Mosque for which it became a model, Rustempasa adds so much to beautiful the skyline of the city.
