YENI CAMI

Located in the old Jewish Quarter of Istanbul, Yeni Cami was started by Sultan Mehmed VI who had certain difficulties during the construction. When the foundations of the mosque was being laid down, the area flooded with the sea water. when the walls of the mosque were few meters high, whole district was burnt down by a great fire.

Then Sultan Mehmed and architect of the mosque died in a successive way. People considering something was wrong with this mosque, they stopped the work and Yenicamii stayed untouched for nearly 35 years. Eventually, Valide Turhan Sultan had the mosque finished and opened to public in 17th century.
