Yildiz Park

Location: Near Ciragan Palace

Located between Besiktas and Ortakoy villages, Yildiz Park was the former Imperial Gardens belonging to Royal Family as early as 17th century. Turkish historian Evliya Celebi reports that Sultan Murad IV gave the gardens to his daughter. The park and nearby palaces as home for great entertainment when the park was illuminated by the lanterns and crystal lambs during the famous Tulip Age. When Sultan Abdulmecid wanted to distance himself from the rest of the world, he chose the yildiz gardens where he built his palace and encircled it with double walls. Sale Palace which consist of two adjacent buildings has one of the enormous Hereke Rugs which is nearly 400 sq meters.
